A dependant is any person who lives with  someone as part of their family.  In the case of illness, injury or the need for care then employees have a right to take a reasonable period of time off work to deal with the emergency.  They also have the right to take the time off to make any necessary care arrangements.  Employees must keep their employers fully informed about the reason for the absence and how long they expect to be absent from work.
